Ride Highland
What is Ride Highland About?
Our mission is to foster a vibrant cycling community by promoting safe cycling practices, building and maintaining accessible mountain bike trails, and organizing engaging guided/self-guided road and gravel tours to cultivate passion for cycling and stimulating the local economy through tourism.
How will this help our community?
People who ride bicycles travel to other places (like Highland co.!) to ride them. This means that bike riders buy food, beer/cider, coffee, clothing, hotel rooms, park permits—the list goes on. In fact, a recent study showed that a bike tourist spends an average of $190 every day that they’re riding in a cycling friendly area.
When does this start happening?
It already has! This year we hired a local pro cyclist to assist in curating some amazing cycling routes in Highland county, adjacent counties and the other Virginia. These routes have maps have turn by turn directions, photos, videos as well as points of interest and food/water stops.
What is next?
We will officially launch our website with a link for fundraising in the coming days. We will also start applying for grants to build trails. Here is where it gets interesting… where? We have been speaking with the local government and land owners to find possible locations.
